‘Swansea Working’ – A Project developed in response to Economic Inactivity in Swansea

The 'Swansea Working' Project has been developed by the Economic Equity Delivery Team in response to economic challenges identified in Swansea’s Economic Regeneration Strategy, Swansea 2020.  Just short of a quarter of Swansea’s workforce is economically inactive. Incapacity Benefit/Severe Disability Allowance and Income Support claimants are above the averages for Wales and Great Britain. A substantial proportion of the people, Swansea’s single most important asset, are not working.

'Swansea Working' will provide a cross-county gateway project to engage effectively with those on inactivity-related benefits.  The Project will create individually-tailored routes to employment and support packages ensuring that people are linked to the appropriate services on their pathway back to work.  In particular, it will work closely with employers to ensure that training and employment activities provide individuals with the most relevant and up-to-date skills for joining the workforce.  Project partners currently include the Third Sector, Further Education, Higher Education, City & County of Swansea and Careers Wales West.
