Better Swansea Partnership

Better Swansea Partnership

The Better Swansea Partnership (BSP) is the overarching co-ordinating partnership for the Community Planning process in Swansea. Its role is to ensure that the delivery of public services is as co-ordinated as possible and to support improvements in services through joint working between agencies.

It includes Swansea's key agencies and it leads the development and delivery of Ambition is Critical – Swansea's Community Strategy.

The Better Swansea Partnership has four strategic aims:

1. Lead the achievement of the shared 2020 vision through Swansea's strategic partnerships
2. Deliver better public services through joint working between key agencies
3. Tackle the cross cutting issues that affect our communities through a co-ordinated and strategic approach
4. Engage all communities, agencies and sectors in the future strategic development of Swansea

The BSP includes most of the key agencies in Swansea amongst its membership and is led by the City & County of Swansea Council.

Local Service Boards

Following the Welsh Assembly’s Review of Public Services (‘Making the Connections’), a new model for improving public service delivery has been developed.   Local Service Boards (LSBs) form part of this new approach to enable the integration of public services and to respond more effectively to citizens' needs.  The Boards will develop, agree and ensure delivery of a set of priority joint actions (known as a ‘Local Service Agreement’) to achieve this.

Local Service Boards will develop out of existing Community Strategy Partnerships.   Membership of the Boards will include key leaders from across public, third and private sectors working as equal partners, taking joint responsibility for connecting the whole network of public services within their area.   A Welsh Assembly Government representative will also sit on the Board.   It is anticipated LSBs will be set up across Wales by the end of 2008.   WAG has selected six 'development projects' in the first phase of implementing the Service Boards.  Swansea's LSB will not be part of the first phase, but is expected to be established by May 2008.
